The given dialogue was playing around with a character obtaining a supernatural book using death elements. Before writing into the book, a mysterious figure appears and scares the main character. For my take, I wanted to use Mexican culture to create both my tone and setting.
Here are my concept art for the characters, book, and the settings for the manga.
My idea, for the main character, was to create a odd-ball and a outcast character. I use mainly circles to keep both her cute design and a more friendly appearances. As for the secondary character, her design is influence by la catrina statues seen in Day of the Dead. Lastly, the book is capturing Mexican art and traditional patterns.
